General Cardiology

At Southern Cardiology Group, a consultation involves a face-to-face meeting with a cardiologist, a specialised medical professional focused on heart care. These consultations usually span 20 to 30 minutes in duration. To be eligible for a Medicare rebate, you’ll need a valid referral from a GP or specialist.

During a consultation, our priority is to delve into your health needs with a particular emphasis on your cardiovascular or heart health. Common reasons for seeking a consultation include concerns like chest pain, palpitations, shortness of breath, and episodes of blackouts or dizziness, among other symptoms.

To make the most of your appointment, it’s crucial to bring along as much relevant information as possible. This may encompass recent test results, a list of all your medications, and any home monitoring data you’ve collected, such as blood pressure readings if you have a monitoring device at home. If you’ve recently undergone any tests, including blood tests, please inform our welcoming reception staff so that we can obtain those results prior to your appointment.

Your consultation will also entail a thorough physical examination. Furthermore, an electrocardiogram (ECG) may be recommended. This simple and painless procedure involves attaching 10 sticky electrodes, primarily to your chest, enabling us to obtain a more detailed analysis of your heart’s functioning.

It’s not uncommon for patients to require additional investigations like echocardiography, 24-hour Holter monitoring, or exercise stress echocardiography. Our attentive staff will assist you in booking these necessary tests and coordinate your follow-up care, taking into account the guidance of the cardiologist and your preferences. Your well-being and cardiac health are of utmost importance to us, and we look forward to providing you with the best care and support possible.
